Cross Country Ski Boots - Classic
A classic cross country ski boot should have a comfortable fit with no pinch points. This ski boot is softer and more flexible than it's skating cousin - it's more like an upgraded touring boot. When you select a cross country ski boot from the classic boot category you are getting lightness, superior quality of materials, better heel control, better fit, lace covers and an overall better boot than a touring boot. The classic ski boots typically have a moldable interior lining that makes the boot better fitting and comfortable. The lace covers ensure that the boot is water resistant, and most insulating materials are lightweight and warm. In a top end race boot like the Rossignol XIUM classic boot the foot stability, flexibility, comfort and lightness will be superior to a less expensive model. The Rossignol X-IUM WC classic boot features a seamless lace cover and water-resistant asymmetrical lacing as well as a Active Control heel, resulting in better fit of the foot and better comfort. The internal lining is thermomodable and quick drying to keep your foot dry and warm.
A mid level classic boot such as the Rossignol X10 or the Fischer RC5 classic will provide a slightly more roomy fit than the top end race boot and will be a bit more flexible. An entry level classic boot such as the Salomon Active 8 Pilot or Siam 8 Pilot for women tends to be the warmest boot, but may not provide as stable a platform than their higher end mates. This is a great boot if you are just getting into the sport. Alternatively, for beginning cross coutry ski enthusiasts or those on a limited budget selecting a Combi or otherwise named Pursuit boot may be a great place to start. We carry the Rossignol X6 combi and the Fischer RC3 combi boot. This ski boot can be used for both skating and classic skiing. The compromise is that it is ok for both sports, but not ideal. This is a great option for parents with kids on the cross country ski team.
Ski Boots Cross Country - NNN boots
The Rossignol cross country ski boot and the Fischer cross country ski boot are built on the NNN boot platform. This is mounted on a NNN binding such as the XCelerator Classic or R3 Classic or Exercise Classic binding. The NNN boot-binding system ideally is mated with a NIS plated ski, also manufactured by Fischer and Rossignol. The advantage of the nnn boot-binding system allows for 5 different binding placements for individual adjustment based upon skier preference and conditions. Ski Boots Cross Country - Salomon Pilot SNS System
The Salomon cross country ski boots have their own boot-binding system and are designed to go with a sns binding. With the classic cross country ski boots by Salomon the appropriate binding will depend upon whether the boot is a pilot (2-pin) or non-pilot boot. New Salomon cross country ski boots are named if they are pilot and are more common than the non-pilot boot.
