Cross Country Ski Boots - Touring
A touring cross country ski boot is comfortable ski boot designed for warmth and stability. This ski boot is soft and flexible - almost like wearing a slipper. It will be warm too. When you are looking to purchase cross country ski equipment, the boot is the most important component. A good ski boot will provide warmth and will provide an exceptional ski experience.
An entry level cross country ski boot such as the Rossignol X1 Ultra, the Salomon Escape 5 or the Fischer XC Comfort will provide the optimum durability of the ski boots in this category. However as the price goes up so does the quality of materials, the support and fit, and ultimately the stability under foot. The higher end ski boots such as the Fischer XC Control, the Salomon Escape 7 or women's specific Salomon Siam 7, and the Rossignol X5 all have superior ankle support and may be warmer. Better ankle support equates to better control of the ski. These cross country ski boots also will be better fitting than the entry level ski boots. The top end Fischer cross country ski boot the Fischer XC Control features an adjustable fit heel strap and heel cap that will provide stability and keep your foot snug in the boot. It's thermomoldable interior lining is designed to keep you foot warm and dry. The high ankle cuff provided added support and stability. The Fischer XC Control cross country ski boot is optimal for the recreational skier wanting comfort and control in a boot.
Ski Boots Cross Country - NNN boots
The Rossignol cross country ski boot and the Fischer cross country ski boot are built on the NNN boot platform. This is mounted on a NNN binding for touring such as the T4 binding. The NNN boot-binding system ideally is mated with a NIS plated ski, also manufactured by Fischer and Rossignol. The advantage of the nnn boot-binding system allows for 5 different binding placements for individual adjustment based upon skier preference and conditions. The Fischer cross country ski boots and Rossignol cross country ski boots have the EU sizing. See the sizing charts for the US conversion.
Ski Boots Cross Country - Salomon SNS System
The Salomon cross country ski boots have their own boot-binding system and are designed to go with a sns binding. With the touring cross country ski boots by Salomon the appropriate binding will depend upon whether the boot is a pilot (2-pin) or non-pilot boot (1 pin). For Pilot boots such as the Salomon Escape 7 or the Salomon Siam 7 it must be mated with a sns pilot binding such as the Salomon SNS Pilot sports classic. For the non-pilot boot such as the Salomon Escape 5 TR or Salomon 5 TR this should be mounted with a Salomon Profil binding. See our Buyer's Guide to Cross Country Ski bindings for more details. The Salomon cross country ski boots are UK sizing. See our sizing charts for the US conversion.
