Classic Skis Cross Country
Cross country skis is best known for the classic ski technique. Classic cross country skis can either be waxable or waxless in the kick zone. A waxable ski allows the nordic skier to apply a kick wax under foot which is specific to the snow temperature and snow type. A waxless ski has texture in the kick zone which serves to provide kick, hence no special waxes are required. The waxless ski has become more popular in recent times, as high end waxless skis have become available. For the average cross country ski enthusiast that has only an hour or so to ski, the waxless version simplifies the workout.
Classic skis cross country
are longer than skate skis and have a javelin tip. They are designed for forward motion rather than the back and forth motion of skate skis. The ski is also longer than it's skating cousin. Ski sizing is based upon the skier's weight and ability rather than height. Being a proficient versus novice classic skier does make a different in the size of ski you purchase. If you are a proficient classic skier, you are more likely to be over your ski more, and get better grip on each stride, thus this skier may be able to go with a slightly longer ski. Someone just learning how to cross country ski may sit back a bit more on the skis or not have the perfect body position, thus a softer flex or smaller size may be appropriate.
